Just Liability?
Just Liability?
Frequently, crashes are caused by people who are uninsured. Some of them don’t even stop after causing the crash.
People assume that they have to absorb all costs as result of that. However, many of them have uninsured motorist coverage but are unaware of it because they just told the agent they wanted “just liability.”
While it is true Tennessee has a minimum requirement of liability to be 25,000 per person and 50,000 total for accident, there is also a requirement that you must sign off if you decline uninsured motorists coverage.
A trained conscientious agent will make sure you also have UM coverage. Even if you just ask for liability, you probably still have it. And if you had an agent or a company telling you do not need it, I’m telling you they’re wrong.
So not only do I encourage you to make sure that you have Uninsured Motorist Coverage, I would also encourage you to bump it to at least 100,000 per person. Ironically, when you quadruple the coverage you have you do not quadruple the cost—and usually not even close to that. Check with your agent or company.
